500 Of Wisley Gardens trees are under threat due to road expansion plans.

See the whole story at www.rhs.org.uk/gardens/wisley/Articles/Wisley-under-threat-from-A3-plans

One of the UK's most loved and horticulturally important gardens is under threat from Highways England plans to widen the A3 in what could be the ultimate garden grab. RHS Garden Wisley, a Grade II* listed garden, could have more than 10,000 sq. metres of woodland grabbed and more than 500 trees destroyed, including one planted by The Queen to mark her Silver Jubilee, if one of Highways England's plans is developed.

The RHS estimates that the 500 threatened trees help to negate the emissions of 19,000 cars each year.

THERE IS ALWAYS ANOTHER WAY – WISLEY HAVE AN ALTERNATIVE !
I ASK YOU TO CHOOSE THE WISLEY WAY.

There are currently two options available to Highways England to widen the A3: one on the east side of the A3 and one on the west. The RHS has carried out expert highway studies and is calling on the Government Agency to choose the east option which does not grab woodland from the garden, would not fell any of these important trees and would better improve road access to Wisley**, which welcomes 1.2 million visitors a year.

PLEASE SUPPORT AND SIGN THE PETITION TO STOP www.rhs.org.uk/wisleythreat

Sue Biggs, RHS Director General, says: "It would be criminal for this irreplaceable woodland to be lost when another viable plan would avoid cutting down these century-old trees and still meet the important need to widen the A3." Quote from Sue Biggs, Director General

Mel Brooks' quirky musical Young Frankenstein receives its West End premiere at London's Garrick Theatre, opening for a limited season beginning September 2017. Based on the 1974 Oscar-nominated film co-written with Thomas Meehan and starring Gene Wilder, the brand new production follows a Broadway run that closed in 2009.

Young Frankenstein is the wickedly inspired re-imagining of Mary Shelley's classic novel, which sees the creation of a creature that cannot be controlled. When Frederick Frankenstein, a New York brain surgeon and professor, inherits a Transylvanian castle and laboratory from his genius, but deranged grandfather, Victor Von Frankenstein, he quickly has some decisions to make.

Facing a scary dilemma, young Frankenstein must choose whether to run from his grandfather's frightening legacy or to continue to crazily experiment with reanimating the dead. And, in the process, will he fall in love with his sultry lab assistant, Inga?

Originally opening on Broadway in 2007, directed by Susan Stroman, Young Frankenstein received a variety of views, running for 484 performances. Stroman returns to direct a revamped, restyled production, reuniting with Mel Brooks and the creative team behind their last hit, The Producers.

A hilarious parody of cult horror films, Young Frankenstein began previews at the Garrick Theatre on September 28th 2017, opens October 10th 2017.

Does anyone know what a Snark actually looks like? Side-splittingly funny, joyful, fast-paced and bursting with a soundtrack of witty songs by an award-winning songwriter, The Hunting of the Snark is a tour de force that'll delight, excite and entertain. The perfect way to enjoy half term.

Northern Broadstairs founder and long term director Barrie Rutter steps down from the helm this year as he retires so be sure to see the final production he directs "For the Love of Money" which is on a UK tour and which will be a the rose Theatre from 31st October until 4th November.

It's the 1920s. In a small Yorkshire town, the wily–widow, Rose (Sarah-Jane Potts, Waterloo Road; Holby City), entertains the advances of two dubious suitors. Fuller (Barrie Rutter) is a fabulously rich and morally corrupt banker who woos Rose by parading his wealth whilst hiding a few secrets. Handsome Arthur (Jos Vantyler) is much younger and deceitful through and through. He plays Rose for as much money as she can take from Fuller. A love triangle then; a deliciously wicked tale of rivalry and greed.

AN EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF DISCIPLINE, COURAGE, RESPECT – AND LEARNING WHAT'S WORTH FIGHTING FOR

TAKE THE SPACE present

WHITE FEATHER BOXER

Thursday 12 October, Myers Studio at Epsom Playhouse
Boxing is not about destruction: it's about respect.
After a hugely successful preview UK tour last year in honour of the centenary of the 1916 "Conscription" laws, Take the Space now bring their beautifully original, vibrant new play White Feather Boxer to the Myers Studio at Epsom Playhouse on Thursday, October 12.
What does it take to be better than the best? To stand up for what you believe?
It's April 1967. In a shabby Bethnal Green boxing gym, elderly trainer Jimmy hears the news: heavyweight boxing champion of the world, Muhammad Ali, has defied the US Military by refusing to fight in Vietnam.

It's a story Jimmy knows all too well. As a Quaker Boxer he himself made a choice during WW1, when Conscription sent pacifists to prison or the firing squad: when he, at the peak of his boxing career and physical prowess, refused to fight for King and Country despite the terrifying consequences.
Jimmy still can't face his demons from the past and now there's a new one from the present: Jo, a Polish immigrant who lives on the local estate. Just turned 16, Jo's strong, talented, impulsive, angry and, given the chance, potentially a brilliant boxer – but she's a girl. Jimmy is 70 now; has he the strength, or even the patience, to coach this wild young teenager and teach her discipline and respect?
Following previous success with Sam & I, Hanging Hooke, Dolce Via and Stella, Take the Space now present this inspirational new play about pugilism and pacifism. Chris Barnes plays Jimmy alongside Julia Masli in the role of Jo.
Writer and director Siobhan Nicholas explains: "I wanted to explore – and honour – the psyche of the boxer and also capture the culture of the ring; I had a hunch that focusing on a retired boxer who has a very personal association with conscientious objection could allow me to come close to defining the qualities of bravery and duty."
This extraordinary story is about imparting wisdom, finding courage, understanding bravery &ndash and learning what's worth fighting for.

Tickets for White Feather Boxer are on sale now! You can book yours by calling the Box Office on 01372 742555 or by visiting the website www.epsomplayhouse.co.uk/shows/white-feather-boxer

TUBULAR BELLS FOR TWO

Two blokes juggle over 20 instruments in a spellbinding performance of Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells For Two performed live in a show that is a multi-award winning sell-out hit at festivals and theatres around the world.

Mike Oldfield's groundbreaking Tubular Bells is an instantly recognisable icon of the Seventies. The first release on Richard Branson's record label, Virgin Records, in 1973, it went on to sell over 30 million copies, kickstarting the Virgin empire. More than 40 years later, two young Australian multi-instrumentalists, Daniel Holdsworth and Aidan Roberts, tried to perform the epic on guitars one night over a bottle of wine. Intrigued by the idea of recreating Oldfield's multi-tracked masterpiece in real time, they started adding more and more instruments – and created a live event that is as challenging for the performers as it is entertaining for the audience.

Tubular Bells For Two took audiences by storm when it made its UK debut at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2012. Now returning for a short British tour – its first since 2015 – Holdsworth and accomplished colleague Tom Bamford (Roberts is currently on sabbatical) are ready to keep audiences on the edge of their seats, as they tackle the Tubular Bells marathon.

Opening act will be GypsyFingers, featuring Luke and Victoria Oldfield – and yes, Luke was introduced to the show by father Mike, who has given it his seal of approval!

TUBULAR BELLS FOR TWO

Two blokes juggle over 20 instruments in a spellbinding performance of Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells For Two performed live in a show that is a multi-award winning sell-out hit at festivals and theatres around the world.

MIKE OLDFIELD'S CLASSIC ALBUM PERFORMED LIVE! On a UK tour and will be playing at G live on 4th October to book go to www.glive.co.uk also at Union Chapel 5th October to book for that show go to 0844 338 0338 Book online: www.unionchapel.org.uk

Tenors Unlimited the 'Rat Pack of Opera' launch fundraising single 'Carry You' at Summer Soiree concert on Saturday 1st July 7pm at St Martin's Church, East Horsley, Surrey, in aid of Cobham-based children's charity Harrison's Fund which fights Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

Internationally acclaimed operatic trio Tenors Unlimited, the 'Rat Pack of Opera' are Paul Martin, Jem Sharples and Scott Ciscon. They will be launching a special song 'Carry You', composed by the group's Paul Martin, in aid of children's charity Cobham-based Harrison's Fund at a fundraising concert on Saturday 1st July 7pm at St Martin's Church, East Horsley, Surrey. Paul is from Cobham, Surrey and Jem is from Surbiton, Surrey.

The charity is named after the ten year old from Surrey who was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a rare genetic condition which affects all the muscles in the body, causing them to waste away. Harrison's Fund's goal is to get as much money as possible into the hands of the world's best researchers, who are working to find a cure for Duchenne. The charity is currently funding 12 research projects in the US and the UK.
All profits from the refreshments sold at the concert will go to the charity Harrison's Fund.

To book tickets (£13 adults, £7.50 under 16s) visit www.tenorsunlimited.com/tickets or phone Tenors Unlimited on 020 8534 6926.

Paul Martin from Tenors Unlimited, says "The inspiration for Carry You comes from Alex Smith, Harrison's dad, who completed an Ironman while carrying his son the whole way, hauling him in a catamaran behind him as he swam, pulling him in a trailer as he cycled, then pushing him in a racing chair as he ran. It took him 15 hours, 26 minutes and 29 seconds. Alex's triathlon was the subject of Discovery Channel's Award-winning documentary. All profits from sales of the song will go to Harrison's Fund."

'Carry You' will be available to download via the group's web site www.tenorsunlimited.com as from 1st July, as well as iTunes, Google and Amazon at a cost of 99p.

Alex Smith, founder of Harrison's Fund and Dad of Harrison, says: "For almost three years now, the group has supported us with live performances in aid of us, spreading the word through their personal and professional social channels and also with Paul's wife, Lila donating her time to our Ball committee. This latest offering is just typical of their generosity in supporting our cause, which we are very grateful for."

"There have been a number of breakthroughs over the past year in treatments into Duchenne but we still have a long way to go until we find a cure and eradicate this awful disease once and for all. It's wonderful that Tenors Unlimited want to help us in this mission."

Tenors Unlimited has been performing to sell out shows in the USA, Bermuda and UK and is currently touring the USA. The group has performed alongside such notables as Sting, Lionel Richie, Beyonce, Hayley Westenra, Simply Red and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra to name a few. Using talents honed in their previous solo careers in opera and theatre, they bring their own blend of wit, charm and vocal arrangements to their performances. Alan Titchmarsh OBE said "21st century tenors, great fun, great voices and a great evening."

Tenors Unlimited sang at the memorial service for football legend Sir Bobby Robson and sang live at Wembley Stadium at the FA Cup final.
For more information about the trio and tour dates, visit www.tenorsunlimited.com

Harrison's Fund was set up in 2011 up by Alex and Donna Smith, in response to their son Harrison being diagnosed with Duchenne, a type of muscular dystrophy. Its aim is to raise money to fund the world's best researchers, who are working to find a cure for the disease. Duchenne is a fatal neuromuscular condition caused by the lack of a protein called dystrophin which results in progressive muscle weakness. One in 3,500 boys is born with Duchenne muscular dystrophy in the United Kingdom each year. Their average lifespan is just 20 years and it is 100% fatal. Harrison's Fund is different from many other Duchenne charities out there because it focuses on trying to find a cure for the disease rather than on palliative care. www.harrisonsfund.com
