Reading Aloud Competition 2019
With 1,185 votes cast in the competition it is congratulations to Gemma Willcox, nominated by Liane Smith, winner of the 2019 Surrey Reading Aloud competition. Gemma received nearly half the votes in the competition reading aloud ‘Dave Pigeon’ by Swapna Haddow.
The Reading Aloud competition has revealed a wealth of talent in Surrey, amongst children and adults, for reading stories aloud. If you enjoyed listening to Gemma and our other finalists reading extracts from ‘Dave Pigeon’ by Swapna Haddow, ‘A girl called Justice’ by Ellie Griffiths and ‘Dogger’ by Shirley Hughes, you can borrow the books from most libraries and read the rest of the story.
If this inspires you to read aloud to someone you know, please pop into any one of Surrey’s 52 libraries where you can borrow something seasonal or ask our lovely staff for a recommendation. Please check library holiday opening times before you leave home.
